Super Slow Motion: Pouring Molten Salt into Water

Here’s another look at the steam explosion that occurs when molten salt (sodium chloride melts at 1,400°F) is poured into water. Footage was acquired at 7,000fps to provide a super slow-motion view of the rapid expansion of steam. If you look closely at the edges of the expanding gases, you can see salt crystallizing before dissolving in the water.
