This five-frame animation depicts the eruption of Io’s Tvashtar volcano with the cloud of debris extending almost 330km above the moon’s surface. The pictures were captured by NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft as it flew past Jupiter on February 26, 2007 en route to Pluto.
