Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt and the only dwarf planet in the inner Solar System. It was first discovered in 1801 by Giuseppe Piazzi who thought it was a planet. NASA’s Dawn spacecraft has been in orbit around Ceres since March 6, 2015 where it captured these images.
